Interview with professional footballer - Marvin Andrews
Here you can read the interview of professional footballer Marvin Andrews. He is interviewed about his life experiences from Trinidad & Tobago all the way to Kirkcaldy! From World Cup Finals to Fife, plane crashes to Premier League titles, Marvin tells all in this interview. Despite being described as eccentric, Marvin simply says he is not ashamed of his belief and is serious about his faith. Despite all his fame and fortune, Marvin describes the one decision he made, that kept his eye on the ball.

Jan 1981- The Year I received Jesus into my life. What a friend I have in Jesus! One of the greatest opportunities we have is to share our faith in Jesus Christ with others. So it gives me great pleasure to be able to share my testimony with you; how I accepted Jesus into my life and that He is now Lord of my life.
Background I was born into a Sikh family in West Malaysia. My parents were both Strict and firm followers and believers of the Sikh religion. Every Sunday, we attended the Sikh temple as expected by my parents and participated in religious ceremony whereby the priest recited the Sikh holy book and shared various messages about the lives and beliefs of the gurus. I joined in always listening intently, participated intently but not ever feeling God’s touch upon my life. Education When I completed my ‘O’ and ‘A’ levels, I applied for a teachers training course. My 3 attempts failed and I was so disappointed and terribly upset as my ambition was to be a school teacher. In retrospect, I believe God had a plan and purpose for my life even before I knew him. Then I applied for nursing in the UK and was immediately accepted for psychiatric nurse training to Runwell Hospital, Wickford, Essex. Conversion Prior to coming to the UK my mum had warned me against becoming a Christian as my sister had accepted Christianity whilst in Malaysia. |
I regularly watched Songs of Praise and there was an instant liking to all that I was listening and felt a need to watch regularly. I also became aware of an emptiness and a seeking to fill this void in my life.
At Christmas time, I was taken ill quite suddenly and admitted into Southend Hospital with acute appendicitis and was operated upon immediately. Whilst in hospital my sister and brother in law came to visit me. During the course of this visit they shared with me the good news of Jesus. A very simple message of love, hope and forgiveness which touched my heart. They said that Jesus died for me on the cross, His blood washes my sins, He rose from the dead, is alive today and I can have a new life through believing that Jesus is the Son of God. For God so loved the world that he gave His one and only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. ( John 3:16) This was something new to me. Wow! It thrilled me as I realised that God made such a great sacrifice for me, a sinner. This message had an impact upon me and with a child like faith I accepted Jesus into my life New life As a Christian, I have a close and personal relationship with God, something I did not have when I was a Sikh By reading the bible and attending church and having a close walk with God , God instilled a desire within me to walk in victory over fear, failure and defeat. What further enhanced my walk with God was; God loves me. I am special to Him. He loves me because He is love. God’s love is pure and ever flowing. It cannot be earned or deserved, it must be received by faith. When we know this love we are strengthened in our inner man. When we are strengthened inwardly, outward difficulties cannot defeat us. My name is George Osborn, from Woking in Surrey.
The occult was a major feature in my life throughout my teenage years, where I would drift from one spiritual prison to another. In my spiritual journey I finally found myself in a church, after having a dramatic experience that was to completely transform my life. The dramatic experience happened when I was recklessly lying on a train track. A train hurtling towards me flung me from the track just before impact. Something inside me was forcing me to go to the local church, and it was there where I hear how Jesus could save me and I became a Christian at the age of 13. I soon fell away and got involved in a George centered world that involved anything but God. However,4 years ago, Jesus graciously drew me back. I felt like a son who had lost everything yet was welcomed back by his loving Father.
As an Evangelist I have the best job in the world telling people the good news. With Avanti Ministries I will be developing my ministry and helping many others to share that news, involved in missions, training and youth work.

Jamie Kidd Testimony
Having left school with no qualifications and going through life feeling like a failure, Jamie decided to join the army. He went through 33 weeks of gruelling training to become one of Britain's elite paratroopers, one of the toughest and most respected of regiments in the world.
He was now travelling the world and had money, friends and a new lifestyle fuelled with violence, alcohol and prostitutes. Two near death experiences, one during the invasion of Iraq, the second through a parachute malfunction left Jamie evaluating his life and searching for answers. After 8 years as a paratrooper and with his marriage in trouble, Jamie left the Army and trained as a bodyguard heading for the Middle East. However, Jamie's plans were brought to a grinding halt in a humbling life changing way.
Jamie is now an international evangelist and has been travelling the U.K and the world for the last two years telling people about the amazing news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Jamie has spoken to different people from many walks of life, including prisons, schools, outreach events and the military.
Jamie joined Avanti after meeting Tony at an outreach event back in January 2007, and soon after joined the team as a full time evangelist. He is also the co-ordinator for the 'Release' evangelism training and Avanti's military ministry.

DJ-Nicholas Testimony
DJ Nicholas, birth name Nicholas Vaccianna Eccleston, Born the 29th of October 1980, Jamaica, was known in his early years as ‘nameless’ and produced dub plates (personalized songs) for sound systems such as ‘Nemesis and ‘Flawless.’
During this period, he began searching for his true identity; one night, he had a dream in which he saw fire falling from the heavens. In his dream, there was a Rastafarian in his house saying to him that he must know himself. As a result, he sought refuge in the Rastafarian faith believing that Selassie was God and became totally immersed in the Religion.
Knowing that he was raised in a Christian home, he prayed for God’s guidance because he was confused about the path he was taking. While studying the bible intensely, he stumbled on Acts 4:12 which reads,"…There is no other name under Heaven given among men by which we must be saved." This passage made him realize that Jesus Christ is the only way. Praises be to God, he received the word with thanksgiving. As a result, he turned fully to the Bible for guidance and inspiration. He made the bold step of attending a church crusade at the New Life Assembly of God, Constant Spring Road. There, he got saved and baptized.
With the passion of knowing Christ, came another passion…the passion of Gospel music. He pursued his dreams of doing God’s music by approaching Tommy Cowan who recorded his first single ‘Barrier’. Nicholas continued to produce songs such as "Pop off the Word" and collaborated with Kerron Ennis on "Holy Ghost Church." He has worked on projects for Prodigal Son such as 'Recharge' which played a great part in his earlier development.

I am a simple Canadian who came from a good family in the Fraser Valley of British Columbia. The need for a relationship with Christ was the foundation of my upbringing and for the most part, I kept myself away from legal and moral rebellion as a youth. As well intentioned as I was, I’ll be the first to admit that I was disillusioned about what it meant to live for God. To find excitement or worth, I had a habit of putting myself in danger and was used to watching Him bail me out. Before I realized I was taking God for granted, I travelled the world and had to fight for my life against the tallest mountain in the world. I started to consider whether I was chasing death instead of actually living for Christ. In time, I began to understand that freedom from the consequence of sin is the most exciting thing that can happen to any person.
Working with Avanti gives me an opportunity to take Christ’s sacrifice seriously. I’m happy to share the Gospel and explain what it took for me to recognize that it is true. That it fixes the brokenness of humanity and that He is everything we have always been looking for. I can’t say I’m often fond of limelight, but if I can do anything to see that the Lord gets the acclaim He deserves, I know I should. I’ll pass out a tract, converse with a stranger, speak in front of groups or teach other Christians how to too. My hope is that when I get to heaven, I will recognize more people there.

The church's vicar seemed to have little time for families from poor backgrounds. He never encouraged me to read the Bible and nothing he ever said or did in any way convinced me that God existed. About all I remember were his purple robes and the boring read prayers!

WHY JESUS?
These are only a handful of real life stories of people who have had their lives changed by Jesus Christ. There are millions around the world who will tell you the same story.
The question people will ask is why Jesus? Why is He so important and has changed all these people's lives? The answer is simple. Jesus alone can forgive sins, provide true fulfilment and guarantee Heaven as John 14:6 describes.
The undeniable truth is, we have ALL sinned. Whether it is lying, stealing, using God's name in vain or breaking any of the other commands. It is these sins that would condemn a person to Hell when they die. We cannot save ourselves and our good works or deeds will never be sufficient.
The Good News is that God has made a way for us to be forgiven and go to Heaven. God loves us and made it possible for us to know Him, through Jesus Christ. Jesus has bridged the gap between man and God. Therefore, He alone can forgive us and give our lives true meaning.
You may now realize your need for forgiveness. To receive God's forgiveness, there a few things you need to realize and do:
1. Admit your need (I am a Sinner)
2. Be willing to turn from Sin (Repent)
3. Believe that Jesus Christ Died for you (On the Cross)
4. Through Prayer, Receive Him as Personal Lord and Saviour
It is the most important decision a person can make. Without this clear decision and consequent life change, no person will enter Heaven. That is the truth from God as His word says:
Acts 4:12 "Salvation is only found in Jesus Christ, for there is no other way for man to be saved."
One day you will die and if that day was today where would you go? If there are question marks and doubt, hope rather than expectation, then it is time to be certain through faith in Jesus Christ. There is no fence or middle ground. Heaven and Hell are as certain as Death and it is only through Jesus Christ that you can be certain of going to Heaven. We all have a choice to accept or reject this truth.
